Most people think clogged artery disease, or arterial sclerosis, only happens in the heart. But it can happen throughout the body. When it does, its called peripheral arterial disease or PAD. And in some people, PAD causes leg pain that can act as an early warning symptom that someone is at high risk for a heart attack or a stroke, say U-M experts.
