Studies link cholesterol-lowering statins with memory loss

In the past year alone three laboratory studies have pointed to a link between statins and brain dysfunction, although all were conducted outside the United States and received little public attention in this country. In November results from one of the largest independent clinical trials to examine statins and cognition will be announced at a meeting of the American Medical Association. Preliminary analysis of the research, conducted by scientists at the University of California-San Diego, suggests statins can cause a host of cognitive problems, including amnesia, forgetfulness and disorientation.
